In the 1920's the Presbyterian, Methodist, and United church decided to join strengths to come preach the Gospel in the DR, organizing a new, autonomous and independent church--without denomination. In 1932 the church united with the Wesleyan Methodists and the Moravians in 1960.
In the beginning, Puerto Ricans were the first pastors that served this church, being pioneers of the work. They now have over 50 native pastors that have graduated from seminary.
Dominican Evangelical Church
The Dominican Evangelical Church has become active in the education of the Dominican child as a way of serving the family. They have schools from elementary school through high school. They have approximately 10,000 students. They also have a summer program (Christian Education Institute) for youth that offers recreational, religious and cultural activities.
Along with the Episcopal church, they started the Social Service of the Dominican Churches, helping those families with needs in social areas.
